The Triage® Cardiac System is a hand-held, point-of-care
diagnostic cardiac marker test capable of detecting an
acute myocardial infarction (AMI), commonly known as
a heart attack, in about 15 minutes. The Triage® Cardiac
Panel provides a rapid, quantitative screen for three
cardiac markers, creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), myoglobin
and troponin I, which are released in the blood when
an AMI occurs. Developed by Biosite Incorporated, the
Triage® Cardiac System consists of two components:
the disposable Triage® Cardiac Panel and the portable
Triage® Meter, the size of a business telephone,
that displays results.
A premeasured sample of whole blood or plasma is placed
on the Triage® Cardiac Panel which is then inserted
into the Triage® Meter. The meter simultaneously
measures the concentration of all three cardiac markers
and displays their quantitative values on a numerical
electronic display. The meter also prints results, stores
patient records and has a data port to download the analytical
information. Biosite developed the Triage® Cardiac
Panel to improve emergency healthcare by providing physicians
with real-time cardiac marker results at bedside that
can lead to faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment
of AMIs.

Biosite Triage™ BNP
The Triage® BNP Test measures B-type natriuretic peptide
(BNP), a cardiac hormone produced by the heart ventricles
in response to ventricular volume expansion and pressure
overload. BNP more accurately reflects final CHF diagnosis
than echocardiogram ejection fractions.
95.6% specificity at 100 pg/mL.
98% diagnostic accuracy in initial studies versus all
significant variables in patients with or without disease
history.
Corrected 96% of misdiagnosis in initial studies.
Diagnostic accuracy for early- and late-stage CHF without
the use of other invasive or expensive diagnostic tests.
Easy-to-use test, with results in approximately 15
minutes.
Triage Cardio ProfilER
With the Triage Cardio ProfilER, physicians can easily obtain the measurements of four cardiovascular markers in approximately 15 minutes, without sacrificing accuracy. This rapid turnaround time enables physicians to more efficiently diagnose chest pain patients, provides a better understanding of the event, and reduces the time-to-diagnose. Troponin I, CK-MB, myoglobin, and BNP each provide unique clinical information, and the panel approach maximizes the strengths of each marker.
